1. Installation Guide

The Hello Genius software suit consists of two apps:

● parent app
● child app

Below is a step-by-step guide to signing up for the parent app, installing the child app, and pairing the devices.
Successful enrollment allows parents to unlock the full power of the Hello Genius software suite:

● Access to the child’s exploration and learning history
● Insights into the child’s key areas of curiosity and passion
● Tips on places to visit, events and meetups to attend, and books to read all based on your child’s learning history
● Control over who can contact your child through the app
● Device details and settings, including app management on the child’s device in Safe Mode 

2. parent app

The parent app is the starting point of the Hello Genius platform. It gives users a real-time feed of everything the child is looking at and learning about. Over time, our analytics reveal a child’s interests and learning preferences. These insights and data points help parents understand their child as an individual with unique talents. A parent’s affirmation and support aid their child’s confidence and growth. The following is a step-by-step guide to the parent app in Hello Genius.

2.1. Registration

After successfully installing the Hello Genius parent app, the user starts the registration process to sign up to the Hello Genius system.
2.1.1. Splash screen
The splash screen is the first screen that appears after the user clicks on the Hello Genius app icon. The screen disappears after a couple of seconds and then the sign up and login screen appears.
2.1.2. Sign up and login
The sign up and login screen appears after the splash screen. To start the sign up process, click on the “Create Account” button.
2.1.3. Enter sign up details
Parent users enter their sign up details by filling in the information in subsequent screens one-by-one. Follow the screenshots below to fill in the necessary information.

Enter Your Name → Enter Your Email → Add Photo (Optional) → Add Phone Number → Enter Date of Birth → Enter Gender → Enter Zip Code (Optional) → Select Languages (Optional) → Enter Account Password → Submit
2.1.3.1. Name of the user
Type in your name. Then click the “Next” button to continue.
2.1.3.2. Email address
Enter your email address for the account. Click the “Next” button to continue.
2.1.3.3. Select photo (Optional)
You can add a profile picture by clicking on the “Photo” icon. This field is optional and users can skip it if they do not want to add a photo.
Choose a picture from your gallery or take a new picture using the camera on the device. Click on the “Next” button to continue.
2.1.3.4. Phone number
Enter your phone number as a part of the user profile on the Hello Genius platform. Click on the “Next” button to continue.
2.1.3.5. Date of birth
Enter your date of birth as a part of the user account information. Click on the “Next” button to continue.
2.1.3.6. Gender
Select your gender as a part of the user account information. Click on the “Next” button to continue.
2.1.3.7. Zip Code (Optional)
You can also enter your zip code in the app. This field is optional and users can skip adding this information. Click on the “Next” button to continue.
2.1.3.8. Select Languages (Optional)
Select the languages that the user can speak from the dropdown. You can select multiple languages. This field is optional and the user can skip entering this information. Click on the “Next” button to continue.
2.1.3.9. Password
Finally, enter a password for your new account. Click on the “Submit” button to sign up to the Hello Genius platform. When the “Submit” button is clicked, Hello Genius assumes that the user has read and agreed to our linked privacy policies, terms and conditions, and disclaimer.

2.2. Account activation

Once the user signs up and submits their information, Hello Genius will send them an email with a 5-digit account activation code. Entering the code will activate their account on the Hello Genius parent app.
2.2.1. Account activation right after signing up on the Hello Genius platform.
The user receives the activation code after submitting their account details on Hello Genius. The activation code is only valid for 10 minutes. Enter the code in the code verification screen that appears after signing up. Click on the “Verify” button to activate your account. Please refer to the following screenshots:
After clicking on the “Done” button on the successful account activation screen, the user will be directed to the Login screen page.
2.2.1.1. Resend Code
In case you did not receive the activation code, click on “Resend Code” on the verification page to receive the account activation code in another email.
Our system will then resend the same code which is only valid for 10 minutes.
2.2.2. Account activation later
If you didn’t activate your account immediately after signing up, follow these steps to activate your account:

2.3. Sign In

A user can sign in with the valid username and password for their account. The username is the email address they entered when signing up to Hello Genius. Please refer to the following image

Click on the “Login” button to sign in to the app.

2.3.1 Forgot Password
You can change your password by clicking on the “Forgot Password?” link below the “Login” button. Please follow the steps below after clicking on the “Forgot Password?” link:

Enter registered email and click Submit → Enter verification code received via registered email and click Verify → Enter new password (twice) and click Submit.

2.4. Add Child

After logging into the parent app, the parent user lands on the Genius Center page. Please follow the steps below to add a child via the parent account.

Login → Genius Center → Click on Add Genius Icon → Add Photo (Optional) → Enter Child’s Name → Enter Nickname (Optional) → Enter Date of Birth → Enter Gender → Enter Zip Code → Enter Languages → Enter Relationship with Child → Submit

These steps are illustrated in the following screenshots:

2.5 Pair device

To use the child app on a child device, pair the child app and device with the parent app under the parent’s user account. The prerequisite for pairing the child app and child device is that the parent app and child app should be installed on separate devices. The parent app should be logged into by one parent user. Each parent user should have their own parent user account. Please follow these steps:

2.5.1. Steps to pair device/app
2.5.1.1. Log into the parent app with the parent user account credentials.
2.5.1.2. Go to the “Menu” section and select “Devices” as seen in the following screenshot:
2.5.1.3. Click on “Pair Device” to pair the child app with the parent app user account.
Alternatively, the parent user can start pairing the child app by clicking on the top right icon
2.5.1.4. Go to the child app device and open the child app.
The first screen should be the QR code with pairing instructions. Please refer to the following screenshot:
The app will give the user 3 minutes to pair. If the app is not paired within three minutes, the QR code will expire and the user will have to restart the app.
2.5.1.5. Click on the “Scan QR Code” button to scan the QR code that is visible on the child device screen.
2.5.1.6. Position the parent app scanner over the child app QR code. The parent app will scan the QR code and pair the child app and child device with the parent user account.

2.6 Assign device

Now, the child app is paired with a parent app user account. One child has been added to the parent account. If the child does not appear in the parent user account, go to the “Add Child” section and follow the steps below to assign the paired device to the child in the parent user account.

Login → Go to the Menu and select Devices → Select the device you want to Pair (click on the > icon) → On the Device Details Page, select Assign/Unassign → Assign the device to a child by clicking the “Assign” button → Confirmation of copying device history to the selected user profile: Yes → Done: Device Assigned

Please see the respective screenshots below to assign a paired device to a child in the parent app account.

2.7 Genius Center

Genius Center is the dashboard of a parent user. It lists all the children added to the parent user account with some brief profile data, latest activities, device status parameters, including battery, storage, and time spent on the device, by child. By default, parent users land on this page after logging into the app. See a screenshot of the Genius Center here:

2.8 Child Profile

On the Genius Center page, a parent user can see each child’s user profile by clicking on the > icon or on the child’s name in any child data section. The child profile page displays the child’s profile information with some actions, including editing the child profile and editing what the child is passionate and curious about. Here is a list of the actions available for a parent user on a child’s profile page:
2.8.1 Edit Profile data
Login → Genius Center → Child Profile → Edit Profile (pencil icon) → Save Changes

2.8.2. Edit “Passionate About” data
The parent user can add or remove information about what their child is passionate about. The Hello Genius recommendation system will use this information to recommend content to the child on the child app.

2.8.3. Edit “Curious About” data

2.9 Calling - Audio / Video

The parent user can call their child using the Audio and Video call features. The parent can initiate a call from the parent user dashboard (Genius Center) screen. Under each child’s section, there’s a Video call icon and an Audio call icon which initiate the call to that child.

2.10 Activity feeds

The parent user can see a child’s activities on their Activities page. The latest activities are visible on the dashboard (Genius Center) page, under the “Activity” label. By scrolling to the right, the parent can see all of the child’s latest activities. To see more activities, go to the Activities page by clicking on >. Please follow the screenshots below:

You can apply filters to only see certain types of activities. See the following screenshots for assistance:

2.11. Interests & Insights

Hello Genius generates a child’s interests based on their activity in the child app. The parent user can view these insights under the Interests tab of a particular child. Parents can dig deep into their children’s interests. Please follow the steps and screenshots below to view a child’s interests:
Login → Genius Center → Activities Page (>) → Interests Page (the column icon in the bottom menu bar)
2.11.1. Interests’ deep insights
The interests displayed in the previous section are a high-level categorization of the child’s interests. The parent user can get a more detailed insight into any of the child’s interest categories by clicking on the > icon (in the Hobbies & Leisure box in the screenshot below) that appears after tapping on any section of the bars. The next page contains more information about the selected interest category in the form of a pie chart.
2.11.2. Interest Filters
The parent user can filter their child’s interests by three different periods of time: “Last 7 days”, “Last 4 weeks”, and “Last 3 months.”

2.12 Tips

The Hello Genius app gives parents recommendations for “Places”, “Events”, and “Shopping” based on their child’s interests. Parent users can customize the input data to see a variety of tips. To learn more about customized input data, please see section [2.15.2]. By default, the tips are generated using the parent user’s current location. To change the location, please see section [2.15.1]. In order to view the tips for a particular child, follow these screenshots:
2.12.1. Tips Filters
Tips can be filtered by three categories: “Places,” “Events”, and “Shopping.” Parent users can select any of these categories in the filter menu to only view the tips in that category. See the following screenshots for instructions:
2.12.2. Custom location tips
Parent users can customize the location attribute and receive tips based on their selected location. By default, Hello Genius generates tips based on the parent user’s current location. Please follow the screenshots below to receive tips for a customized location.
2.12.3. Customized input for tips generator
Parent users can customize the inputs from which the Hello Genius system generates the tips. Click on the “+” icon to enter your input data in order to get customized tips.

2.13 Content sharing

Parent users can share content (images, videos, and PDFs) from the parent app to the child app. By default, the Share page, which you can access using the bottom menu bar on a child’s profile page, displays the content that the child and parent have shared with each other. The parent user can also see what content has been shared by other siblings with this selected child or vice versa. All of this data can be filtered. For more details about the filter, see section [2.15.1]. The following screenshots show how to share an image with a child:
2.13.1. Filters for parents
2.13.1.1. Content Types
The content type filter allows parents to only view a particular type of content that has been shared by the child or with the child. Content types include videos, images, books, and audio.
2.13.1.2. Shared categories
Parent users can filter the content that has been shared with the child or by the child by different categories, too:
2.13.1.2.1. All shared content: Displays all of the content that has been shared with the child by anyone in the family as well as all of the content that has been shared by the child with anyone in the family.

2.13.1.2.3. Shared with me: Displays content shared by the child with the current parent user.

2.13.1.2.4. Shared by others: Displays content shared with the child by other members of the family.

2.13.1.2.5. Shared with others: Displays content shared by the child with other members of the family.

2.14 Parent Social

Hello Genius parent social recommendation system helps parents connect with other parents based on their children sharing similar interests. A parent can send a request to connect to the recommended parent. The receiver of the request can choose to accept or ignore it. The parent social module is all about suggestions and connections. Let’s look at them in detail.
2.14.1 Suggestions
Hello Genius suggests that a parent could connect with another parent who has kids with similar interests and who is close in geographic proximity. In order to view suggestions of parents with whom you might want to consider connecting, go to the Social page (the globe icon in the bottom menu bar) on a particular child’s profile and click on the “Suggestions” tab, as seen in the screenshots below.
2.14.2. Connections
All of the parent user connections can be viewed under the Connections tab of the Social page. The list of connections can be filtered by status: All, Connections, or Pending. Use the dropdown menu located under the Connections and Suggestions tabs to select a status and filter the connections by that status. By default, all connections are visible in the connections list, including Accepted and Pending. Pending status includes two-way pending statuses, i.e. a connection request sent by the user as well as a connection request received by that user.

2.15. Devices

By following the steps and screenshots below, you can view the list of devices paired with a parent account.

2.15.1. Device Information & Status
You can view information about any device in the list by clicking on the > icon in any device section.

2.15.1.1. Last used location
You can view the last used location of the child device/app on the device details page, as seen in the following screenshot:
2.15.1.2. Device password
The child app passcode can be changed in the parent app. In order to do that, go to the device page and enter a new password in the “Device Passcode” section.
2.15.1.3. Assign / Unassign
2.15.1.3.1. Assign Device
Please see the “Assign Device” information in section [2.6] of this document.

2.15.1.3.2. Unassign Device You can unassign a device from a child on the device details page. In order to do that, please follow the screenshots below.
2.15.1.4. Safe Mode
Safe Mode on the child device is a restrictive mode that locks the child’s device down to a single app or a specific set of apps to run in the foreground. Safe Mode on a child’s device is guarded by a passcode which the parent user can change from the device page in the parent app.

The parent user can change the Safe Mode passcode from the device details page, as seen in the following screenshots:
2.15.1.5. Apps Management
In the parent app, parent users can restrict a child device to the Hello Genius child app or to a set of apps. The parent user can add or remove apps in Safe Mode (a restricted mode) from the device details page. Please read below for further details.

2.15.1.6. Rename device
A parent user can rename a child device on the device details page of the parent app. Please refer to the following screenshots:
2.15.1.7. Delete device
To delete a paired child device from a parent account, the parent user must first unassign the device from the child user. In order to unassign the device from the child in the parent app, please refer to section [2.19.1.5.2]. The unassigned device canthen be deleted from the Genius Center, Device details, and Device page itself. The following screenshots illustrate how to delete an unassigned device:

2.16. User Profile

2.16.1. View user profile
The parent user can view their profile in the Menu. Please follow the steps and screenshots below to view user profile information:

3. child app

3.1 Safe Mode

Safe Mode on the child device is a restrictive mode that locks down a child’s device to a single app or a specific set of apps to run in the foreground.
3.1.1 Activate Safe Mode
The Hello Genius system will prompt you to choose whether to activate Safe Mode as soon as you open the child app. From the moment you activate Safe Mode, the child only has access to a defined set of apps. Please see the following screenshots for details on how to activate the Safe Mode.
Select all of the permissions you wish to grant the child in Safe Mode. Click on “Grant All” to give all permissions.
3.1.2 Exit Safe Mode
Safe Mode is passcode guarded. The child user or parent user on the child device can exit Safe Mode by entering the passcode set for exiting Safe Mode. Please follow the steps and screenshots below to exit Safe Mode.

Log out of Hello Genius App → Exit Safe Mode → Enter your Safe Mode Exit Passcode → Exit
3.1.3. Settings in Safe Mode
The Settings in Safe Mode allow a child user to change the device’s WiFi network, Brightness, and Volume, and toggle the Flashlight on/off. The Settings button can be found on the Hello Genius Launcher page (which appears once you have logged out of the hello genius app) or by scrolling up on any screen within the Hello Genius app.
3.1.4. Apps in Safe Mode
The child user can access certain apps other than Hello Genius on the device in Safe Mode. For more information, please see section [2.19.1.7]. Other apps can be accessed after logging out of the Hello Genius app. The other apps added to Safe Mode are available on the Hello Genius launcher page. A selection of Safe Mode apps on the Hello Genius launcher page can be seen in the screenshot below.

3.2 Home Screen

3.2.1 Dashboard Content
The dashboard screen is the landing page after logging into the Hello Genius child app. On the dashboard page, also known as the home page, the system displays various multimedia content including videos, images, and books. The dashboard page also allows a child to navigate within the app by all action icons on it. Let’s look further into each of the multimedia content types:
3.2.1.1 Videos
Video is one of the content types that the child can view on the Hello Genius platform. Please see the video player screens below with available actions on them. <- [I would remove all of this]
3.2.1.1.1 Play/Pause Video
The child can play and pause the video. Please see the screen of the video player playing the video.
3.2.1.1.2 Videos only
The child can choose to only view videos on the dashboard page by selecting the pink play icon at the top of the screen, highlighted in the screenshot below.
3.2.1.2 Books
Books are another type of content that the child can interact with on the Hello Genius platform.
3.2.1.2.1. Books only
The child can choose to only view books on the dashboard page by selecting the blue book icon at the top of the screen, highlighted in the screenshot below.
3.2.1.2.2. Book Reader
The child can start reading a book by clicking on any of the book thumbnails.
3.2.1.2.3. Search in Book
The child user can search for specific content in the book by typing their keyword(s) into the search field and clicking on the search icon to see the search results.
3.2.1.2.4. Audio Book
Clicking on the audio icon in the bottom right corner of the screen will turn on the Hello Genius book reader, which will start reading the book to the child.
3.2.1.3. Images
Images are another content type that the child can view on the Hello Genius platform. Please see the image content screens with available actions on them. <- [I would remove all of this]
3.2.1.3.1. Images only
The child can choose to only view images on the dashboard page by selecting the yellow icon at the top of the screen, highlighted in the screenshot below.

3.3 Activities

3.3.1 View content
3.3.1.1. Videos / Books / Images
The child can view content by clicking on content thumbnails. The content will open in its respective view mode, i.e. a video in the video player, a book in the book reader, and an image in the simple view mode.
3.3.2 Inspect
3.3.2.1 Inspect video
The child can view content by clicking on content thumbnails. The content will open in its respective view mode, i.e. a video in the video player, a book in the book reader, and an image in the simple view mode.
3.3.2.2. Inspect image
The child user can also inspect images by clicking on the inspect icon in the action bar at the bottom of the screen. Below, you can see screenshots of an example inspection on an image and the results of that inspection.
3.3.3 More like this
The child user can search for content similar to what they are currently viewing. Clicking on the “More like this” button will search for similar multimedia content and deliver it to the child.
3.3.3.1. Image / Video
The “More like this” feature only works when the child is viewing either image or video content.
3.3.4 Like

The child user can like content by clicking on the “like”  icon. The “liked”  icon (heart filled with color) means the child has already liked the particular content on the screen.

3.3.4.1. Image / Video / Book
The child user can like an image, video, or book. Here are examples of liked content screens for an image and a video (respectively):
3.3.5 Share
The child can share content with their parents and siblings on the Hello Genius platform. They can share a video, an image, or a book.
3.3.5.1. Image / Video / Book

3.4 Search

The child can search the multimedia content on the Hello Genius platform by typing in a search term or by using voice recognition audio search. Please see the details for both methods of search below.
3.4.1. Audio Search
Audio search starts listening to the voice input after the child has clicked on the audio icon. See how audio searching works in the following screenshots:
3.4.2. Text Search
Text search opens up a new screen when the child clicks on the search icon. See how text search works in the following screenshots:
The child user can go to voice/audio search straight from the text search field by clicking on the mic icon. A new screen will open, as in section [3.4.1].

3.5 Parent’s Topic Recommendations

The Hello Genius software platform allows a child to view content recommended to them by their parent via the parent app. For more information about the parent’s topic recommendations, please see section [2.8.2] and section [2.8.3]. Please see the steps and screenshots below for more information on parent-recommended topics and how a child can view content about them.
The child can click on the icon to open up the content suggestions from their parents. They can then click on one particular recommendation, such as “Boston”. The child can also ask Hello Genius to speak the suggested string by clicking on the speaker icon.

3.6. Liked Content

The child user can view all of the content they have liked on the Hello Genius platform in a reverse chronological order. Here is a screenshot of content liked by a child:

3.7. Shared content

The child user can view content shared with him/her by the parent and other siblings, or vice versa, on the Hello Genius platform. Here is a screenshot of content shared by/with the child:

3.8. Calling

The child user can call their parents and siblings registered on the Hello Genius platform. The Hello Genius platform provides both audio and video calling features. Please see the screenshots for Audio and Video calling below:
Select the parent or sibling you want to call. You can start the call using the video or audio button. The video button initiates a video call and the audio button initiates an audio call.

3.9. Scan & Learn

Scan & Learn allows a child to learn about real-world objects. The child can take a photo on their device and then use the Hello Genius Child App to “inspect” the objects in the photo. For more information about the inspect feature on the child app, please refer to section [3.3.2]. Please see the screenshots below to learn how the scan and learn feature works.

3.10 Lock App

The lock app feature locks the child app so that it will open from the same page. Please follow the screenshots below to lock the app
